Thanks for visiting my Newsblog. I occasionally update this Newsblog and report on certain law related activities and also some extracurricular happenings of note. I try to include a few photos of events that might be of interest to clients, friends of the firm and colleagues, and otherwise try to keep things light.
2010 has been a busy year! Highlights have included being sworn-in as President-Elect of the Morris County Bar Association in January; winning the dismissal of a hard-fought attorney ethics case on behalf of a firm client; settling an Age Discrimination matter in favor of a Plaintiff and obtaining a very favorable settlement; settling a Sexual Harassment case prior to trial on behalf of a Defendant employer, and reaching settlements on various Commercial cases and Personal Injury matters.
In February 2010, I presented an ethics seminar, entitled, "Fundamentals of Ethics" and "Professionalism Pitfalls" that was held in two parts, on March 24, 2010 and March 31, 2010, at the Hyatt Hotel in Morristown, N.J. The seminar was sponsored by the Morris County Bar Association. The seminar focused on the basic structure of the attorney ethics system, the Rules of Professional Conduct, common ethical problems that can be avoided, and an overview of discipline which has been meted out in the past for ethical transgressions. Our seminar qualified for credit under the newly instituted mandatory continuing legal educational requirements for ethics and professionalism.
I will present another attorney ethics seminar on October 7, 2010, entitled: "Attorney Ethics Considerations for the Solo Practitioner, and Navigating through an Ethics Investigation." That seminar will be held at the Morris County Court House, Jury Assembly Room and will qualify attendees for 2 credits toward the ICLE ethics requirements.
On May 28, 2010, my rock & roll group, "The Impostors Band" played at the Russian Hall in Little Falls, where we had a great time blasting rock and roll music for 4 hours. Then, on July 9, 2010, the Impostors Band played the Madison Downtown Summer Concert Series, where we had a big crowd and lots of friends, fellow musicians and even a few clients of the firm in attendance for the outdoor show.
The Impostors Band covers a broad range of music, ranging from late '50s songs, Motown hits, classic rock, and contemporary stuff, with lots in between. The band's current lineup includes: Roy Root on lead guitar, Bob McAndrew on guitar, sax and vocals, Mark Harris on bass, and me on drums and vocals. The Impostors Band has been known to play "Sea of Love" and follow it with something like The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again," and then maybe Elvis Costello's "Peace, Love and Understanding." I guess we're like a box of chocolates.
Well, thanks for stopping by. I better get back to work. Hopefully, the balance of the year will bring continued good fortune to my many friends, clients and colleagues.
